    The Position

    Social Services Chiefs manage the overall design, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs.

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

    The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Social Service Chief I. The position will be located in Las Vegas, NV. This position is an essential member of the Juvenile Justice Administrative management team and is responsible for management, supervision and oversight of daily operations of the Juvenile justice Program's Office (JJPO) which focuses on critically assessing systemic challenges, action planning and implementation of strategies to improve the service delivery to youth and families. Oversees and manages system compliance with the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Act, which protects juveniles within the juvenile justice system from inappropriate placements and from harm, both physical and psychological, that can result from secure detention in juvenile detention centers and adult facilities; Maintains the JJPO budget; Preparation and submission of grant applications; Implement, monitor and evaluate federal and state sub-grants; Apply all rules, regulations, policy and procedures of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and appropriate regulatory authorities; Develop, create, and submit comprehensive reports; Data collection and analysis; Function as an agency liaison and technical resource to stakeholders; Perform meetings, training sessions and lectures; and clearly communicates and supports Division values, goals and objectives. Provides and oversees the administrative support to the Juvenile Justice Oversight Commission.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public or business administration or related field and three years of professional social services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpreting and applying complex federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
