    The Position

    Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.

    The Nevada Health Authority seeks a skilled Public Information Officer II (PIO II) to lead communications, media relations, social media, and public outreach. Serving as the Department's primary spokesperson, the PIO II manages a comprehensive communications program, responds to media inquiries on sensitive issues, and advises executive leadership on strategy and public impact. Responsibilities include maintaining the Department's website, preparing press and communication materials, organizing press events, and building relationships with media and community partners. The PIO II develops internal and external campaigns, monitors communication expenditures, assists with budget planning, and ensures messaging aligns with statewide priorities. The position may also support the Chief of Staff with legislative activities and initiatives.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
