    The Position

    School/Community Nutrition Supervisors and Specialists provide technical assistance, nutrition education, program monitoring, claims reimbursement, application approval, and outreach and training for statewide school and community nutrition programs that provide financial support to public, private nonprofit, and for-profit schools, child care facilities, residential institutions, youth camps, summer programs, and other organizations.

    Incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept; develop and implement training evaluation tools; oversee claims administration; and ensure compliance with Civil Rights Program Authority. Positions at this level may supervise professional, technical and/or support personnel. This is the journey level in the series.

    The Nevada Department of Agriculture, Division of Food and Nutrition is looking to fill a Community Nutrition Specialist position in Las Vegas. Under the supervision of the Community Nutrition Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the administration and management of one or more programs under the Community Nutrition Section, including the Summer Food Service Program and the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The incumbent will interpret and implement federal program regulations; provide expertise and technical assistance to program sponsors/operators in food service management, to include program requirements, nutrition education, program monitoring activities and other areas; approve new and renewing sponsor/operator applications; oversee program compliance reviews and monitoring; train new and current sponsors and occasionally internal staff; compile data for USDA and other reports; provide information to federal agencies. The Specialist will utilize MS Office 365 daily for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email and other computer programs to prepare and conduct presentations, training, and provide information to various groups, to include community and faith-based organizations, non-profit organizations, for-profit and non-profit child care centers, local government agencies, legislators, congressional delegates, the media, other public officials and the public.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, public health, public administration, nutrition, behavioral sciences, human services, or related field and three years of professional experience in nutritional needs assessment and nutritional programs planning and implementation; OR three years of experience as a School/Community Nutrition Program Coordinator II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Some positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require work on evenings and weekends. Some positions require statewide travel. Some positions require a pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting. Positions in this series must obtain and maintain either a School Nutrition Association (SNA) Level Three certification or Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Management Professional (CMP) within 12 months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
