The City of Irvine seeks a passionate and motivated individual for the Extended Part-Time Public Safety Assistant - Open Space position.
Extended Part-time: 30-32 hours per week.
Open Space: The position of Public Safety Assistant assigned to the Open Space requires patrolling rugged, off-road terrain on foot, by bicycle and 4x4 vehicle. The hours are mostly afternoon and weekends but must be flexible to meet department needs.
Your Impact:- Duties include making presentations to community groups and department staff.
- Providing traffic control.
- Responding to emergencies.
- Writing police reports.
- Issuing citations and making municipal code and misdemeanor arrests.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions- Associate's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field with at least one year experience in law enforcement activities, community service, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Requires a valid California drivers' license.
- Depending on assignment, may be required to obtain certification in first aid and CPR.

The Public Safety Department is a full-service public safety agency that provides several special program areas including Emergency Management, Community Outreach, Youth Services, K-9s, Traffic Enforcement, Investigations, Crime Scene Investigation, and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). Irvine is committed to a full community-oriented policing concept that interfaces closely with all segments of the community.
THE PROCESS:
The selection process may include an interview and background investigation prior to appointment. All applicants must be able to pass the Public Safety background check process. This includes, but is not limited to, the review of legal documents, police and driving records, credit profile, motor vehicle insurance, vehicle operation, prior employment records, and performance reviews.
