    The Position

    Napa County is currently recruiting to fill one Accounting Assistant vacancy within the Fiscal Division of Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

    The Accounting Assistant position will be working in the Fiscal Division of Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). This position will report to the Supervising Staff Services Analyst and will be responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable activities for the Social Services and Agency Administration divisions. This position will also be responsible for the completion and submission of monthly and quarterly County Welfare Assistance Claims and statistical reports to the California Department of Social Services in accordance with State and Federal regulations.

    Applicants must possess a general understanding of Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP) and County Welfare Programs in order to review and process payments for Agency expenses, Public Assistance benefit issuances, general ledger journals, and employee expense reimbursements. Accounting Assistants also prepare monthly and annual reconciliations of expenditures and deposits for review and approval by Fiscal management; provide support to Agency program staff; create and utilize tracking spreadsheets; and work on a variety of special projects involving research and dtac collection.

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill current and future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.

    Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary Increases and Winter Time Off:
    • 3.5% COLA increase effective 7/1/2026
    • 32.0 hours of Winter Time Off


    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Experience and Education :
    To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:

    Experience:
    Two years of progressive, directly related experience in financial record keeping work preferably including experience in an accounting position and/or with a government agency.

    Education:
    Equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in accounting, financial record keeping, or a closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year-for-year basis).

    License or Certificate:
    Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

    Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

    The most qualified candidates from the oral panel interview will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered for current and future vacancies for this position for up to one year.

    SALARY -
    Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
