DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe General Services Department is seeking a
Building Maintenance Supervisor to s upervise building cleaning and maintenance services for City buildings; implements and enforces policies and procedures for custodial services.
This position will perform the following responsibilities:
- Schedules, supervises and reviews cleaning maintenance work performed by custodians in City buildings
- Instructs inspection personnel in cleaning procedures/methods.
- Create, assign, and manage orders in FAMIS work order system
- Investigates complaints regarding custodial services and resolves problems.
- Inspects cleaning equipment for safety; reports needed repairs.
- Requisitions custodial supplies and monitors related inventory control records.
- Inspects elevators, escalators and other specialized equipment; coordinates cleaning with building engineers, custodial crew, and contractors as needed.
- Reports need for building repairs.
- Trains employees to adhere to safe working practices.
- Will require traveling to various locations to perform duties.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSBasic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSTwo years of experience in custodial services are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNone
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to qualified applicants with:
- A valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2)
- Training experience
- Supervising employees in custodial work environment
- Ability to work under moderate supervision to ensure completion of tasks
- Working in FAMIS work order system
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
