    THE CITY

    Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917, and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops, and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Culver City has a dedicated staff of approximately 800 employees with an overall budget of approximately $368 million. The City provides a full range of municipal services, including Fire, Police, Housing and Human Services, Planning and Development, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, and Transportation.

    THE DEPARTMENT(S):

    Culver City Police Department
    The Culver City police department is responsible for providing public safety services to the City of Culver City. Police Department has a complement of just over 100 sworn and 48 civilian personnel serving a residential population of 40,000 and an estimated daily commercial population of over 200,000.

    Culver City Fire Department
    The mission of the Culver City Fire Department is to protect life, property, and the environment by providing prompt and professional fire protection and life safety services.

    THE POSITION

    Community Services Officer
    (Regular Part-Time RPT, Benefited Position)


    *There is currently (1) vacancy in the Culver City Police Department and one (1) vacancy in the Culver City Fire Department.

    The following job duties are associated with Community Service Officer's assigned to the Police Department:

    This non-sworn position assists with non-hazardous police activities. As assigned, investigates minor incidents such as petty theft, lost and found property, missing persons, property damage, traffic accidents, City ordinance violations, and abandoned vehicles, engages in routine activities such as ordering supplies, conducting data searches, informing victims of case status, and serving subpoenas, participates in routine crime prevention tasks, assists with traffic and crowd control and enforces parking regulations, prepares clear and accurate reports, performs other police support work such as public desks and phones, fingerprinting, various jail duties and clerical tasks, and collects and counts money received from parking meters, performs other related duties.

    The following job duties are associated with Community Service Officer's assigned to the Fire Department:

    Provide public assistance on the telephone and at the public counter to developers, architects, and property owners by providing information related to procedures and policies for fire prevention permits and hazardous materials, assist Permit Technican(s) with various administrative duties, accept and review fire and building and plan check applications, maintain a log of application submittal, file and/or route plans and applications to City departments and staff, operate a computer terminal to input and retrieve departmental information, prepare numeric and other required reports such as public records requests, fire incident report requests, memos, correspondence, proclamations and documents in connection with annual Fire Prevention Week and Fire Service Day, quarterly occupancy reports to the Battalion Chiefs and dispatch, provide administrative support to suppression companies and training officers when necessary, fire hydrant maintenance, assist Fire Inspectors with Public Education events as needed, assist Fire Inspectors with conducting apartment inspections as needed. Preferred proficiency in computer programs such as Accela, Lancet, JDE, and Microsoft Office.

    Schedule:

    Regular part-time position working approximately 35 hours per week. Schedules may vary depending on the needs of the department(s).


    Minimum Requirements:
    Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be: A high school diploma or equivalent.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.

    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    Suitability for position will be evaluated by an application review. This evaluation will be qualifying. Those deemed qualified will be invited to the Oral Appraisal Interview. The Oral Appraisal Interview will evaluate training, experience, and personal qualifications.

    Selected candidates for the Police Department must successfully complete the following:

    • Polygraph and background investigation, and
    • Psychological screening and medical examination.
