    The Position

    Transportation & Safety Attendants, within the Nevada State Veterans Home (NSVH), operate various types of motor vehicles such as shuttle buses, automobiles, vans, light trucks, or golf carts in order to transport Veterans who have physical, intellectual, psychiatric and/or advanced cognitive impairment to medical appointments and community outings to include parks, restaurants, movie theaters, church and other leisure and recreational activities; conduct both interior and exterior fire and life safety patrols to ensure compliance with State and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

    The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS), Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) is recruiting for a Transportation and Safety Attendant 2, for its 24/7 skilled nursing facility located in Boulder City, Nevada. Under the direction of the Transportation and Safety Attendant 3, the incumbent serves as the department's safety officer and is responsible for enforcing laws, rules, and regulations related to State law and agency safety and security policies. This position promotes effective security operations for the protection of people, property, and the facility. The Transportation and Safety Attendant 2 is also responsible for transporting residents to outings and medical appointments using a shuttle bus, van, or car. Additional duties include assisting residents during activities and appointments; supporting residents, staff, and visitors by providing tours of the facility, answering the main telephone line, and directing calls to the appropriate department; maintaining proper use, control, accountability, and issuance of keys, lockers, and related items; performing preventive maintenance and inspections of the facility and vehicles, as outlined in department policies; conducting routine rounds of the facility during assigned shifts and performing other related duties as assigned. This position is required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience one year of which included performing fire and life safety patrols and one year of which included the transportation of multiple passengers; OR one year of experience as a Transportation and Safety Attendant I within Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions are required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Special Requirements Positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Transportation and Safety Attendant 2 and 3 positions require CPR certification and basic first aid certification at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Transportation and Safety Attendant 1 positions require CPR certification and basic first aid certification within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
