    Restricted to permanent employees of the Department of Auditor and Controller who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and meet the qualifying requirements.

    Current employees in the unclassified service in the County of Los Angeles Department of Auditor-Controller who meet one of the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam:
    • Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service.
    -OR-
    • Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing.

    Essential Job Functions

    Supervises the repair, maintenance and fabrication of equipment and tools used in: road maintenance and surveying; hospitals and institutions; and in parks maintenance and recreation. Determines nature and extent of repairs needed and job priorities; assigns and inspects completed work.
    Requisitions, receives, stores, and issues materials and equipment needed in operation of shop, or to equip survey party crews.

    Supervises furniture, office equipment and upholstery repair and fabrication work.

    Estimates material and labor costs for special jobs; makes sketches or diagrams and prepares materials list.

    Participates in preparation of budget for shop or for service functions supervised.

    Enforces safe work practices, proper maintenance of shop equipment and tools, and for shop cleanliness.

    Maintains repair, maintenance and inventory records for a wide variety of equipment and tools.

    May drive automotive equipment in performance of duties as needed.

    Supervises miscellaneous service functions such as: receiving, inspecting, and delivering office furniture and equipment and maintaining a surplus furniture storage unit; departmental moving and delivery service; assigning and dispatching vehicles and making arrangements for necessary maintenance and repair work; and repair and fabrication of locks and keys and maintenance of lock system as needed.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment (e.g., mailing machines, forklifts, pallet jacks) and tools (e.g., screw driver, wrenches), one year of which must have been in a *specialized or **supervisory capacity.

    *Specialized capacity is defined as requiring an in-depth knowledge of the repair and maintenance of mailroom equipment, tools and other materials, and include serving as the lead operator and providing relevant training and troubleshooting assistance.

    **Supervisory is defined as having a full supervisory responsibility including planning, assigning, scheduling, hiring, rating performance evaluations, disciplining, and counseling employees. Provides day-to-day technical and administrative supervision to subordinate staff.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
    Withhold Information :
    Permanent employees of the Department of Auditor-Controller who have completed their initial probationary period and hold a qualifying payroll title may file for this examination if they are within six months of meeting the experience requirements by the last day of filing. However, the names of such employees will be withheld from the certification list until the required experience is fully met.

    Out-of-Class Experience :
    County employees who wish to meet the requirements using out-of-class experience must provide official documentation such as additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus, or reclassification study from CEO Classification with your application at the time of filing or within fifteen (15) calendar days from application submission. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held the position above/ or a position deemed to be at equivalent level. Out-of-class duties should be accurately described in the application work history, and questionable experience will be verified through the departmental HR Manager when necessary.

    Verification of Experience Letters will not be accepted. Credit will only be given for out-of-class experience to meet the Minimum Requirements only.

    LICENSE:

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:

    PART I: An evaluation of Training and Experience (T&E), weighted 50%, assessing:

    Applicants must meet the Minimum Requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the combined scores for Part I and II in order to be placed on the eligible list.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 12 MONTHS.
