    The Job

    The Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Mobile Clinic Dentist* who will primarily support mobile dental operations through routine and emergency dental services, including the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

    The Mobile Clinic Dentists will perform the following duties:
    • Perform routine and emergency dental services on the Public Health mobile dental clinic, including screenings, examinations, diagnosis and treatment plans, preventive dental services, general restorative procedures (fillings), denture adjustments, and minor oral surgery (extractions). Periodontal (deep cleanings) and basic endodontics (root canals) typically are not performed on the mobile clinic, but may be performed at a physical clinical location.
    • Provide dental services at various mobile locations throughout the region, including rural areas in the county which may include occasional evening hours until 7pm and/or weekends.
    • Provides back-up support, when assigned, at any of the department’s Federally Qualified Health Centers, primarily the Hesperia location.
    • Administers and prescribes anesthetics and medications.
    • Refers patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate and ensure follow-up with patient care.
    • Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
    • Manages and directs all ancillary clinical services and dental staff.
    • Ensures all clinical services functions achieve expected clinical and productivity outcomes.
    • Provides leadership in related quality improvement activities.
    • Implements and evaluates operational and administrative processes.
    • Ensures the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives.
    • Provides leadership and direction related to clinical collaborative, studies, programs, or research related initiatives that improve the lives of our patients as well as the communities in which they live.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required, including to remote and rural communities.
    Schedule: The incumbent may occasionally be scheduled to work on weekends, including Saturdays or Sundays, based on community event schedules and operational needs. Overtime beyond the regular work schedule may also be required.
    Physical: Requires physical demands such as, balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, standing, stooping, turning, twisting and walking long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds.

    Working Conditions: Involves exposure to hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

    License:
    Possession of a current license as a Dentist by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.

    Certificate: a Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate

    DEA Authorization: Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) authorization to prescribe all necessary medication

    Experience: Completion of two years in dental practice, exclusive of internship.
