    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. THIS RECRUITMENT IS USED TO UNDERFILL A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER is in the Bureau of Water Pollution Control's Permitting Branch located in Carson City. This position will help protect Nevada's water resources by ensuring that discharges to surface and groundwater meet State and Federal environmental standards. This position will play a key role in safeguarding public health and the environment through scientifically sound, regulatory-based permitting decisions. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    The responsibilities include the following; 1) develop clear, legally robust permits and supporting documents for surface water and groundwater discharges, helping ensure Nevada's water remains safe and clean, 2) evaluate permit applications and water sampling data to identify pollutants of concern and apply appropriate water quality standards, 3) conduct technical analyses to set enforceable effluent limits and monitoring requirements that protect water quality, 4) issue individual and temporary discharge permits that support controlled, compliant activities without compromising environmental safeguards and that comply with current State and Federal regulations, and 5) collaborate with colleagues, regulated entities, other agencies, and the public to deliver responsive, professional, and transparent customer service.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
