      • Position Summary
      • Full-time position available on or after December 3, 2025 for Building Maintenance.
        Under general supervision, incumbents in this classification perform the full range of skilled journey-level electrical and related work as outlined in the series overview. Consult and work with other trades workers and may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.

      • Job Duties
      • Duties include but are not limited to:
        • Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
        • Operate electrical power-generating plants and other electrical equipment and systems.
        • Maintain and repair low-voltage systems including fire, alarm, and access systems.
        • Test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.
        • Plan the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations.
        • Fabricate electrical parts; perform incidental welding as necessary to complete electrical work.
        • Advise in the selection and storage of electrical equipment.
        • Estimate cost, time, and materials for electrical projects.
        • Participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop.
        • Clean, maintain, and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties
        • Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
        • Inspect related work performed by contractors.
        • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
        • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
        • Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.
        • Incumbents typically hold a license or applicable certification.
        • Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems.
        • Prepare standard reports.
        • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
        • The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this classification.
        • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other departments withing functional area as needed.

      • Minimum Qualifications
      • Education: None required
        Experience: Combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program.
      • Preferred Qualifications
        • California General Electricians Certification.
        • Certification indicating completion of an applicable apprenticeship program in the electrical trades.
        • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification.
        • Previous experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems.
        • Previous experience with NOTIFIER systems in fire alarm systems.
        • Knowledge of medium and high voltage, switchgear, and power distribution.
        • Previous journey-level electrical trades experience in an educational or academic institution.
      • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
        • Thorough knowledge of the electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems.
        • Thorough knowledge of the applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
        • Ability to assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses; operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work.
        • Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications.
        • Ability to make rough sketches; estimate the cost, time and materials of electrical work.
        • Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports.
        • Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
        • Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
        • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
        • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
        • Must possess a California Driver’s License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.

      • Physical Requirements

        • Frequently sit, move, and stand for the typical journeyman level of skilled construction or maintenance trades functions.
        • Sit or work at a work bench or computer terminal for long periods of time on various projects.
        • Ability and strength to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, finger and feel the various tools, equipment, and devices required in the field of an Electrician.
      • Salary Range
      • Anticipated salary will be $6,459 - $7,105 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full range: $6,459 - $8,339 per month)

      • Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
