Position OverviewThe Henderson Police Department announces the opening of applications for the position of Police Officer. Processing and testing of applicants will occur throughout the year on an ongoing basis.

The pool of candidates from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for the classification of Police Officer for up to one (1) year.
Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties related to detecting, preventing, and investigating crime and maintaining law and order; and performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035.
- Must be a U.S. citizen by the time of application.
- Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, and age 21 by the start of the academy.
- Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence.
- Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.
- Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear.
- Must successfully complete the Henderson Police Department Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department.
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
- Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:Step 1: Submit Your Application - Apply by December 31 st , 2025, to join us for the May 2026 academy!
Step 2: Written Exam - Must be completed within 10 calendar days of receiving invitation to test.

Step 3: Physical Fitness Test - Candidates invited to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will receive an email notice when it is their time to schedule. PFT dates open two weeks in advance, and scheduling links are sent out to candidates who have passed the written exam (see dates below).

Space is limited, so candidates are encouraged to sign up early! The requirements to pass the PFT are listed below: Exercise Event Requirement Vertical Jump 11.5 inches Agility Run 23.4 seconds Sit-Ups 24 in 60 seconds Push-Ups 18 (no time limit) 300 Meter Run 82 seconds 1.5 Mile Run/Walk 20 minutes and 20 seconds PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will need to meet the standards shown in the video in accordance with Nevada POST requirements during the academy, the hiring process is based on the requirements listed above. - Video Demonstration of Physical Fitness Test
Step 4: Preliminary Oral Board Interview - Conducted via Microsoft Teams after successful completion of Physical Fitness Test
Step 5: Background Investigation - IncludesPersonal History Questionnaire / Polygraph Examination / Fingerprinting
Step 6: Command Staff Interview - Candidates who successfully complete backgrounds will be invited for a final interview with HPD Command Staff
Step 7: Conditional Offer - Drug Screening / Psychological Examination / Medical & Physical Screening
Step 8: Employment Offer & Academy -Henderson Police Academy hours are 6am-4pm, Monday - Thursday for approximately 24 weeks

- 13.33 hours per month sixth through twelfth year;

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE - Three (3) days of leave, with pay, per occurrence, to attend funeral for immediate family member; increased to one (1) week if funeral is held 400 miles or more from City of Henderson
