The Staff Analyst plays a key role in supporting departmental leadership by providing research, analysis, communications, and program management expertise. This position requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive information and represent the department effectively across diverse stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Communication & Documentation
- Draft, edit, and revise correspondence, reports, and procedural manuals for the department.
- Prepare speeches, talking points, and remarks for departmental leaders.
- Assist with public relations activities, including press releases and responding to inquiries from officials, media, clients, and the public.
- Program & Policy Support
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services to meet both immediate and long-term needs of one or more City departments.
- Provide analyses, evaluations, recommendations, and information to support departmental decision-making.
- Conduct research and reviews of vendors, equipment, services, and regulatory changes.
- Representation & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the department head at meetings and conferences with public and private entities.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and other City departments or external stakeholders on cross-functional issues.
- Financial & Project Management
- Oversee financial operations as assigned, including budget preparation, project cost analysis, expenditure monitoring, and accounting processes.
- Manage planning, research, promotion, and evaluation of special initiatives, such as grant programs.
- Lead or contribute to special projects at the direction of departmental leadership.
- Confidentiality & Compliance
- Handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a field directly related to the type of work being performed.
Graduate degrees related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three years of professional administrative, financial or analytical experience related to the type of work being performed are required.
Professional experience related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
