    The Position

    Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.

    This is an IT Technician 4 position within the Governor's Technology Office (GTO), Facility Operations team. This is an entry-level opportunity for those seeking to begin a career in Information Technology, in an Enterprise environment. This is an onsite position located in Carson City, Nevada. Primary duties for the incumbent include monitoring multiple computing technology platforms including Windows and Linux Server OS Virtual Machines, IBM mainframe (z/OS), modifying z/OS and Linux/UNIX job schedules, making basic code changes to batch jobs, printing large batches of duplex printed output, monitoring all equipment housed within the GTO Computer Facility, and notifying the Server, Mainframe, UNIX, Network, and Mechanical sections along with other State of Nevada agencies of software and hardware failures.

    The Operations team is a 24x7x365 staffed team; therefore, all IT Technicians must be willing to work night and weekend shifts along with holidays. All incumbents must have a valid driver?s license. All GTO employees must successfully pass pre-employment background checks. IT Technician 4?s will be given thorough on-the-job training, empowering them with the skills needed to successfully perform their job duties.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, three years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR (for positions in the Network Operations & Support specialty ONLY) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of IT work experience in the upgrade or replacement of software and hardware components on networked workstations; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
