    Job Summary

    Mohave County Information Technology is looking to fill an I.T. Technician position from within the series below.

    I.T. Technician I -> Starting Salary - Range 7, $15.75
    I.T. Technician II -> Starting Salary - Range 10, $18.22
    I.T. Technician III -> Starting Salary - Range 13, $21.09
    I.T. Technician IV -> Starting Salary - Range 16, $24.42


    The Information Technology Department is a Customer Service focused department. Interpersonal skills and communicating with other county employees to assist them is a crucial skill to be successful in this role. This position will be in the Technical Services division working mostly in office with computers. There will be some travel required to Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, and Colorado City using a county assigned vehicle. There is limited interaction with the public and public speaking. The working schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with holidays and weekends off.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Answers the County’s main telephone switchboard, routing and referring calls.
    • Assists Information Technology users in Mohave County with first-level technical support functions for standard, specialized software applications and automated business systems.
    • Responds to inquiries and requests for Information Technology services; interviews user to collect information about technology problems, automated business systems, and software issues; leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error; defines problems, identifies, and isolates errors, and implements technical solutions to solve problems.
    • Picks up and delivers (by foot or motor vehicle of assigned route) interdepartmental and U.S. mail correspondence and packages at County sites.
    • Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
    • Provides first level technical support, training, and assistance to customers; explains standard, and guidelines; follows up with users to assure the incident is resolved.
    • Analyzes and resolves incidents and requests regarding application software, hardware, or projects. Logs and tracks incidents and/or requests from identification through resolution using the appropriate tracking system.
    • Refers complex incidents to appropriate level IT Technician.
    • Documents work completed and maintains IT records; notifies manager and peers of unusual problems or problem trends in order to facilitate continued improvement of client services.
    • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and County information.
    • Ensures the IT department mission, philosophy, and Mohave County’s mission, core values, programs, products, and services are consistently adhered to and presented in a strong, positive manner.
    • May participate in repair of, installation, or configuration of hardware, software upgrades, enhancements and revised functions, tests compatibility and performance with user.
    • Communicates and acts in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
    • Takes a lead position on larger projects and more complicated tasks.
    • As assigned, may review work of other staff for conformance to regulations.
    • Trains and cross-trains fellow employees on system operations and usage.
    • Provides hardware and software support of PC's and network/telecommunications system infrastructure equipment
    • Provides administration of a multiple server network.
    • Plans and implements network security and data administration
    • Installs, configures, upgrades, and troubleshoots problems related to hardware, software, and other equipment
    • Researches, evaluates and tests new technologies for existing and proposed network systems
    • Troubleshoots problems related to any aspect of network systems and PC's
    • Diagnoses, tracks resolves, and documents problems
    • Identifies system problems and recommends possible solutions
    • Corrects and tests software and hardware problems
    • Identifies and resolves hardware, software, and networking problems related to end-user computing; may maintain and repair data communication lines, routers, and software; schedules and coordinates preventative maintenance on computer and peripheral equipment.
    • Configures network interface cards, protocols, cabling, routers, switches and hubs
    • Provides technical specifications for new projects
    • Performs diagnostics on suspected faulty components
    • Writes general work plans and status reports for projects and presents plans to management
    • Advises, trains, and assists users on how best to utilize system and ensures installation of desktop hardware and software according to established standards


    Minimum Qualifications

    I.T. Technician I:
    • High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • One (1) year consecutive computer operations, which includes configuration, maintenance of microcomputers, related peripheral networks
    • One (1) year experience in training, troubleshooting and providing technical support to systems users.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    I.T. Technician II:
    • High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • Two (2) years consecutive computer operations, which includes configuration, maintenance of microcomputers, related peripheral networks
    • Two (2) years’ experience in training, troubleshooting and providing technical support to systems users.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    I.T. Technician III:
    • High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • Four (4) years consecutive computer operations, which includes configuration, maintenance of microcomputers, related peripheral networks
    • Four (4) years’ experience in training, troubleshooting and providing technical support to systems users.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    I.T. Technician IV:
    • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
    • Five (5) years consecutive computer operations, which includes configuration, maintenance of microcomputers, related peripheral networks
    • Five (5) year experience in training, troubleshooting and providing technical support to systems users.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Personal computers and software application packages and development products.
    • A wide variety of hardware and software, cabling, power requirements, and ancillary equipment related to network operations.
    • Data communications protocols and standards.
    • Windows Desktop and Server Operating Systems.
    • Router and TCP/IP configurations including but not limited to VLANS and routing protocols.
    • Troubleshooting of personal computers and network/telecommunication architectures.
    • Diagnose, document, and troubleshoot a wide variety of technical problems.
    • Personal computer components, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
    • Installing and configuring wireless networking equipment.
    • Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
    • Working in a technical environment with interlinked and changing priorities.
    • Diagnosing, analyzing, and resolving technical problems in a network environment.
    • Responding professionally, effectively and efficiently to customer service requests.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective positive working relationships with co-workers and customers.
    • Communicating verbally and in writing.
    • Equipment selection for determining which tools and equipment are best suited for each job.
    • Troubleshooting to determine the causes of operating errors and resolving causes.
