The PositionThe City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of
INSTRUCTOR* to fill one (1) vacancy in the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.
These are exciting opportunities for engaging and energetic individuals who can instruct classes in Strings, Violin, Guitar, and Keyboard.
Under general direction, to provide specialized recreation and/or education programs at various locations throughout the City. This is a broad class designed to cover several diverse areas of expertise that will allow the City to hire individuals with the skills and knowledge appropriate to the planned activity.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has fifty-eight parks, totaling 2,880 acres of developed parkland, twelve community centers, three senior centers, two social service centers, one youth opportunity center, one youth innovation center, one nature center, eight pools, and approximately 24 miles of trails. Join the Department and team that provides convenient, affordable and equitable recreation services to the community through organized youth and adult sports, aquatics programs, cultural arts, community special events, intervention and prevention programs, nature programs, recreation contract classes, activities and education, mobile recreation programs and after school programs.

Work PerformedDuties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Teaching specialized arts and crafts programs
- Instruction in various sports skills
- Teaching appropriate social skills
- Demonstration of animal control techniques
- Instruction in lifesaving skills
- Instruction in graphic and web design techniques
QualificationsEducation: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
Highly Desirable Qualifications:- Experience instructing guitar and keyboard classes for 5 or more individuals.
- Experience instructing violin classes for 5 or more individuals.
- Experience instructing cello classes for 5 or more individuals.

All temporary employees are automatically enrolled in a mandatory Deferred Compensation plan in lieu of Social Security. Temporary employees are also eligible for paid sick leave as outlined in the Fringe Benefits and Salary Plan, Section 7. Employees may be eligible for CalPERS membership upon hire if they are already a CalPERS member, Tier designation is based on membership date. If no prior CalPERS membership exists, employees must meet CalPERS eligibility requirements before being brought into CalPERS membership.
