    Position Summary

    The Division of Research and Innovation (DRI) is seeking a Division Coordinator to support the operational and administrative functions of the executive office. Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Partnerships, this position will independently coordinate a variety of tasks, including fiscal project management, research, calendaring, office maintenance, and acting as a point of contact for internal and external audiences. The Division Coordinator will also support external relations, organize meetings and events, and manage complex projects with related reporting.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate operational and administrative tasks for the executive office of the Division of Research and Innovation.
    • Manage fiscal projects, including budgeting, tracking expenditures, and reporting.
    • Research and prepare materials for meetings, presentations, and reports.
    • Handle complex scheduling and calendar management for the Director.
    • Act as a point of contact for various internal and external audiences.
    • Organize and coordinate meetings, events, and complex projects.
    • Support external relations and assist in outreach efforts.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The Division of Research and Innovation is an administrative unit with 35 part and full-time employees. The Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI) is responsible for university-wide advocacy for research, scholarship and graduate education. The VPRI reports to the President, is a member of the President's Cabinet and the Academic Deans' Council, and provides leadership and coordination of all research and graduate activities at San Diego State University. The VPRI provides leadership and guidance to sponsored research activities within the San Diego State University Research Foundation, represents the university externally to major funding agencies, and oversees research regulatory committees. The Division of Research and Innovation carries out its charge through several units including Research Support Services. Research Support Services is responsible for review of all grants and contracts, research assurances, regulatory compliance/integrity, oversight of regulatory and research promotion committees, and liaison with the SDSU Research Foundation. San Diego State University has a highly diverse student population of 39,000 students, including approximately 6,000 graduate students. With over eighty master's degrees and 19 joint doctoral programs, for three consecutive years, SDSU has ranked as the No. 1 most productive research university, among small research universities, based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index by Academic Analytics.     Education and Experience

    Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

    These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

    Key Qualifications
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretative skills.
    • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write complex and detailed reports and proposals.
    • Ability to plan ahead, build and retain a knowledge base of current and historical data, retrieve and organize relevant, complex material.
    • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in MS-Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom or other web conferencing software, Google Suite programs (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides).
    • Experience using CRMs to manage relationships and opportunities (preferred).
    • Experience working in a large public sector, non-profit, or educational institution (preferred).
    • Experience and proficiency with Canva or related software (preferred).

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,190 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
