    Position: Associate Dean for Student Success and Outreach, College of the Arts
    Effective Date: On or about July 1, 2025
    Classification: Administrator III
    Salary Range: The Administrator III (12-Month) classification salary is $82,692 - $265,428/per year. The anticipated hiring range may be up to $163,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
    Reports To: Dean, College of the Arts

    COTA at California State University, Long Beach is California’s largest and most comprehensive publicly funded school for the arts, with approximately 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It includes the Departments of Cinematic Arts, Dance, Design, and Theatre Arts, as well as the School of Art, the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, the Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum, and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center (CPAC).

    About the Position

    The CSULB College of the Arts (COTA) welcomes applications for a college-level administrative position focusing on student success. The Associate Dean for Student Success and Outreach position provides strategic direction and guidance on the deployment and utilization of existing and new CSU and campus educational policies and procedures to achieve a high-quality, supportive, and inclusive educational environment. The incumbent in this position also leads process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, and they serve as a co-chair of COTA’s Strategic Planning Committee. The Associate Dean of Student Success and Outreach also employs project management skills to facilitate operational educational objectives and generates and oversees required statistical data and budgeting in collaboration with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, and the Administrative Services Manager of the College.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Appropriate terminal degree, with successful university teaching experience, service, and a record of scholarly/creative activity suitable for a tenured, full professor faculty appointment in one of the College of the Arts’ six academic departments
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in a leadership position or role that includes customer and/or student support services
    • Demonstrated experience collaborating and coordinating effectively with academic units, colleges, and various other campus units and/or constituencies within an arts environment
    • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively to set long-term objectives, goals, and priorities
    • Experience with budget management including equitable allocation of funds in alignment with disciplinary needs
    • Experience with outreach initiatives in the community and K-12 learning environments to build stronger partnerships and enrollment for the programs in the College of the Arts
    • Demonstrated strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and initiatives
    • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Familiarity or experience with one or more of the fields represented among the College of the Arts departments: art, cinema, dance, design, music, and/or theatre
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of college students, including those with disabilities
    • Experience with technology-supported teaching environments and pedagogical approaches
    • Demonstrated experience with a collective bargaining environment
    • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: program assessment and review, graduate studies, enrollment management, student success, internships, research and grants, and admissions initiatives, and/or student mentoring in a program, department, college, and/or university environment.
    • Demonstrated understanding of academic policies and procedures related to undergraduate and graduate education
    • Demonstrated development of leadership in others through coaching and mentoring
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and solicit input
    • Expertise and/or commitment to issues and initiatives related to student success
    • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically like the CSULB student body

    Duties:
    • Maintain a continuous presence in the College of the Arts office and routine availability for consultation with students, staff, and faculty regarding student issues
    • Engage the college to promote and address challenges with student success and foster opportunities to further student success in all facets of learning environment
    • Advance priorities of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a foundation for student success, inclusive of faculty and staff roles and responsibilities
    • Collaborate with COTA’s academic advisors to facilitate efficient academic advising structures and determine areas of support and develop programs for student retention and graduation including internship and career planning
    • Collaborate with Department Chairs and Directors to develop and incorporate high impact practices into instruction, such as internships, service learning, and community engagement at both local and international levels
    • Manage arts undergraduate and graduate programs in collaboration with the Associate Dean and Department Chairs, including requesting and allocating funding to provide appropriate academic support resources and access to mental health and wellness resources for students, faculty, and staff.
    • Oversee student academic appeals, academic renewal, disciplinary sanctions, and academic integrity in accordance with FERPA guidelines
    • Cultivate and expand COTA degree programs and public-facing units to meet the needs of our diverse student body and community partnerships through student success initiatives
    • Assume a range of responsibilities as a key member of the leadership team of the College, as well as represent the College on relevant committees, councils, and projects and at various College functions within and outside normal work hours
    • Expand and oversee the college scholarship and internship programs
    • Effectively manage enrollment management and academic scheduling processes in collaboration with Department Chairs
    • Work with the College’s leadership team to assist in student success initiatives, internships, study abroad programs, public relations/outreach, and provision of mental health resources for students, faculty, and staff
    • Participate in ongoing college and university strategic planning efforts, including the monitoring of data, sharing of challenges and accomplishments with the broader college community, and regrouping/pivoting as necessary to meet strategic goals
    • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Dean of the College
