Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

• Work involves the planning, implementation, and completion of major assignments.
• Work may also require extensive liaison and coordination activities with other governmental agencies, city departments, and staff.
• Assignments are received in both oral and written form and may involve several projects simultaneously.
• Employees of this class are expected to resolve problems of a complex and technical nature through the exercise of broad independent judgment.
• Work is performed under the supervision of a professional superior and is inspected while in process and upon completion by conferences and submitted reports, to ensure adherence to departmental standards.
• Work includes, but is not limited to, the review of site disturbance, grading, stream buffer, and privately constructed public infrastructure applications for adherence to adopted standards and City Codes.
• Review of floodplain development plans for compliance with Chapter 28 of the city's Code of Ordinances.
• Review of development plans, preliminary plats, final plats, and building plans for compliance with the City's site disturbance, grading, stream buffer, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and floodplain requirements.
• Supervise staff as assigned.
• Preparing permit information in the City's enterprise permitting system.
• Providing technical assistance to internal and external customers regarding KC Water Permitting & Development policies.
• Tracking and closing out permits as needed.
• Coordinating with inspectors.
• Responding to correspondence and calls from internal and external customers.
• Interacting with other utilities, departments, and agencies to resolve policy or procedure questions.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRES

• 4 years of progressively responsible experience as a Registered Engineer.
• Within 6 months of hire date, must be registered as a Professional Engineer with MO Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects.

Preference given for considerable knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of engineering with regard to civil design projects, utility projects, and construction projects.
• Computer software like Microsoft Office Suites, Adobe, Energov/CompassKC, etc.
• Principles, techniques, practices, and equipment used for utility services and connections.
• Principles, techniques, practices, and equipment used for sediment and erosion control.
• The City's Code of Ordinances, governing administrative codes, and regulations.
• Current practices, methods, techniques, materials, and materials testing used in engineering and construction projects.
• KC Water rules and regulations for water and sewer mains.
• Specifications for KC Water utility related construction projects.
• Professional staff supervision.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
