Summary
Senior DevSecOps / Platform Engineer
Location: Onsite
Work Environment: Federal / Department of Defense
Clearance: Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DevSecOps Engineer to help transition an advanced software platform from a research environment into a secure, operational Air Force environment.
This individual will evaluate the current DevSecOps ecosystem and determine which tools, pipelines, and infrastructure can be migrated and which components should be redesigned. You will have significant influence over the program’s deployment strategy, CI/CD architecture, repository management, and cloud-hosted development environments.
This is primarily a DevOps and Platform Engineering position with a strong focus on secure software delivery. It is not a traditional cybersecurity analyst role.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate an existing DevSecOps environment and recommend whether components should be migrated, modernized, or redesigned.
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting secure software delivery.
- Develop deployment architectures and strategies for operational government environments.
- Establish repository management, branching, release, and software delivery practices.
- Build and support cloud-hosted development and deployment environments.
- Support containerized applications and Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Collaborate with software developers, government stakeholders, engineering teams, and program leadership.
- Help transition software from unclassified CUI environments into higher-classification environments.
- Incorporate security scanning, compliance controls, and software supply chain requirements into the delivery process.
- Support continuous development and delivery while meeting Department of Defense cybersecurity standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or DevSecOps.
- At least 5 years of experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience designing deployment strategies and software delivery processes.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Azure, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Kubernetes, containers, or comparable technologies.
- Experience supporting software deployments within secure government or regulated environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Ability to work onsite at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Government or another government cloud environment.
- Active U.S. security clearance.
- Experience supporting IL5, IL6, SAP, Secret, or TS/SCI environments.
- Knowledge of NIST 800-171 or NIST 800-53 controls.
- Experience with SAST, DAST, container scanning, or other automated security tools.
- Experience generating SBOMs or supporting software supply chain compliance.
- Experience supporting ATO or RMF activities.
- Previous experience supporting Air Force software, acquisition, research, or modernization programs.
Why This Opportunity?
- Help transition innovative software from a successful research environment into an operational Air Force capability.
- Make meaningful architectural and platform decisions rather than simply maintaining established pipelines.
- Influence the DevSecOps framework and deployment strategy from the ground up.
- Collaborate directly with government, research, software development, and industry teams.
- Support a highly visible modernization initiative with long-term growth potential.
- Participate in a streamlined interview process.
