Job Description

Overview

Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City's six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants, lift stations, and wastewater collection system. These positions ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of treatment facilities and collection infrastructure while maintaining compliance with TCEQ requirements and all other applicable laws, regulations, policies, and safety standards within the scope of their assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Conducts preventative maintenance on engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other plant equipment

• Completes basic to intermediate process control measurements and testing of dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, residual analysis meters, sludge quality, and aqueous and atmospheric sulfide levels

• Responds to emergency chemical releases and implements containment and evacuation procedures

• Demonstrates knowledge of plant flow and water and wastewater treatment processes

• Conducts process laboratory analyses and accurately records treatment residual data

• Maintains accurate inventories of treatment chemicals

• Monitors distribution system pressures through remote control systems

• Operates pumps, motors, and valves remotely

• Receives and verifies chemical deliveries

• Applies knowledge of TCEQ regulations and requirements to daily plant operations

• Assists with other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• No prior experience is required

Licenses and Certifications

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
