Job Description
OverviewUnder direct supervision, the Building Inspector I is responsible for performing building inspections and ensuring construction is in conformance with adopted codes and ordinances. Additional responsibilities include communication with construction contractors based on inspection results.
Responsibilities
• Performs field inspections of building components and ensures construction conforms to adopted codes and ordinances
• If determination of applicable code is needed, Building Inspector I will defer to Senior Building Inspector for clarity
• Responsible for communicating inspection results with contractors and builders when clarification is requested
• Maintains all records of inspections completed and logs of issues at inspections sites
• Will ensure that all records are complete and uploaded into IPS system of record
• Under guidance of Inspector Il and the Senior, read and review plans for building inspectors
• Required to attend training sessions related to the inspection division
• This will include attending sessions pertaining to new codes and ordinances
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications
• High School Diploma / GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
• ICC Residential Building Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire.
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

• Drug Screening: Yes
• Physical Exam: Yes
Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
