Job Description

Overview

Utility Technicians are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the City's six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants, lift stations, and wastewater collection system. These positions perform a variety of activities to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of wastewater infrastructure, including the maintenance of wastewater collection lines and related equipment. Employees are responsible for performing all duties in compliance with applicable Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements, federal, state, and local laws, regulations, safety standards, and City policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs intermediate to advanced process control measurements and testing, including dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, residual analysis meters, IAR testing, sludge quality testing, and aqueous and atmospheric sulfide level testing

• Assists in identifying maintenance requirements, developing preventive maintenance strategies and plans, and performing root cause analyses of equipment failures; makes recommendations based on findings

• Prepares purchasing documents and minor construction contracts in direct support of maintenance and operations; applies TCEQ regulations and requirements to operational activities

• Assumes command of the control room in the absence of the Lead Operator and directs the activation of remotely operated processes

• Reviews water analysis results, identifies maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), and recognizes potential conditions that may result in MCL exceedances

• Serves as a technical subject matter expert for SCADA, instrumentation and electrical (I&E), and maintenance teams

• Performs other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• One (1) year of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

Required within six (6) months of hire

• TCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment License

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
