Bring your building inspection expertise to the Town of Prescott Valley where your knowledge and leadership will make an impact! The Town of Prescott Valley is seeking an experienced Senior Building Inspector to join our Development Services team. In this role, you'll combine hands-on field inspection and plan review with the opportunity to serve as a technical resource and leader for the inspection team. You'll work directly with contractors, property owners, design professionals, and the public to interpret code requirements, resolve complex construction issues, and help ensure development throughout the Town meets adopted standards and safeguards public health and safety.

Examples of Duties

WE ARE SEEKING A SENIOR BUILDING INSPECTOR WITH:
  • Strong Code Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of adopted building codes and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply complex code requirements.
  • Commercial Inspection Experience: Significant experience inspecting commercial construction, remodels, tenant improvements, and complex projects.
  • Sound Judgment & Problem Solving: Ability to evaluate unusual field conditions and determine appropriate code-compliant solutions.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Ability to provide technical guidance, mentor inspectors, and promote consistent application of codes and department policies.
  • Professional Communication: Communicates clearly and professionally with contractors, architects, engineers, property owners, and City staff.
  • Accurate Documentation: Produces clear, concise, and defensible inspection reports and maintains complete inspection records.
  • Plan & Construction Document Review: Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and approved plans while verifying field compliance.
  • Organization & Accountability: Effective manages inspection workload and priorities while demonstrating reliability, consistency, integrity, and attention to detail.

Typical Qualification

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Post secondary education in a trades program
  • A minimum of four (4) years' journey-level experience in construction inspection
  • ICC or equivalent certifications required: Residential and Commercial Building Inspector and Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license and eligible to drive on behalf of the Town.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.

COMPENSATION:
  • The Town's complete compensation package includes salary, benefits, and a high-performance culture. The Town package includes a health, dental, and vision insurance plan, participation in the state retirement system, optional 457 deferred compensation with a town match up to 6%, vacation, holidays, and additional comprehensive benefits.
  • The expected hiring range is $35.42 - $37.00 per hour
  • The full hourly range is $35.42 - $53.12
