Job Description
OverviewThe building and grounds custodian position will be responsible for maintaining the grounds for the Fleet Maintenance facilities. This position will keep up the appearance of the outdoor areas by keeping lawns cut, trees trimmed and the pathways clean from debris, removes trash from facilities and grounds. The incumbent will be responsible for the care and maintenance of all grounds, keeping equipment assigned to the division and ensuring proper disposal of old tires.
Responsibilities
• Mow grass in and around the garage, auction lot, fuel station, and wash rack areas
• Use trimmer and edger as necessary to maintain appearance
• Trims trees as necessary, cleans sidewalks of debris, clippings, and trash
• Walk grounds to pick up trash
• Sweep high traffic areas, isolated areas, and empty garage bays to assist mechanics and technicians with cleaning the facilities
• Pressure washes bays as directed by the Supervisor
• Clean up spills and maintain orderly appearance of garage areas
• Clean pressure wash / wash rack area of debris and mud
• Empty trash cans in garage bays
• Collect soiled rags and properly dispose of them into receptacles
• Assist technicians with removal of clean and used oil products from bays
• Remove trash from service station area
• Remove discarded scrap metal, trash, and parts from bay door areas and deposits in metal/recycling/trash receptacle
• Collects old/worn tires from tire center and moves them to tire recycling point
• Vigilance of weather to ensure standing water does not collect in used tires
• May include assisting with preparation of vehicles and equipment for auction, reorganizing storage areas for metal and/or parts, securing external equipment from inclement weather, etc.
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-exempt - Full-Time
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• No Prior experience required
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within Six (6) months of hire:
• Forklift Certification

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
