SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides dispatch services to operators and customers of buses and trolleys over fixed routes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Organizing driver assignments, route planning, and coordinating special events.
- Prepare manifests for drivers; prepare various activity reports.
- Using radio systems or phones to communicate with operators, providing updates on routes, traffic, or scheduling changes.
- Using CAD (Computer-Assisted Dispatch) and GPS technology to track vehicle locations and performance.
- Responding to emergencies, accidents, or operational issues, and providing solutions to minimize delays.
- Assist in the removal of fare boxes from buses.
- Ensuring adherence to safety protocols, maintaining logs, and preparing reports for transit supervisors.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
- City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
- Dispatch operations and methods.
- Principles and practices of customer service.
- Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications (excel).
Skill in:
Communication Skills:Strong verbal skills to interact clearly with drivers and the public, along with good writing skills for logs.
Problem-Solving:Ability to resolve conflicts, manage delays, and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
Technical Proficiency:Familiarity with Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) systems, maps, and radio communication equipment.
Knowledge of Regulations:Understanding of DOT (Department of Transportation) safety regulations and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements.
Organization:Managing multiple tasks simultaneously, such as scheduling, responding to calls, and monitoring vehicle locations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of dispatch experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- CDL Class B required with P endorsement
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
