Library Associate 3 - Adult Services Assistant
The Library Associate 3 - Adult Services Assistant role is the senior role in the Library Associate job family and may supervise Junior Library Associates. The primary responsibility is programming and at the circulation desk, providing excellent customer service. A portion of the Library Associate 3 job may also be to plan and facilitate library programs and/or volunteer coordination.
Hours worked per week: 40
Primary Responsibilities
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patrons by greeting visitors, conducting library tours, and assisting patrons with all areas of the library.
- Regularly serve as building manager, overseeing circulation staff, submitting incident reports, and coordinating facility requests and operational needs as necessary.
- Collaborate closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement, and promote programming for all age groups, with a particular focus on adult services.
- Assist with processing newly acquired library materials, including Zip Books, as well as weeding materials as directed by the Adult Librarian.
- Inform patrons of library rules of conduct as necessary and enforce policies appropriately.
- Assist with daily library opening and closing procedures.
- Support the reference desk and AskUs email service by assisting patrons with research, informational, and general library inquiries.
- Manage Community Room rentals and maintain accurate records related to reservations.
- Assist with setting up displays monthly or biweekly.
- Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred
- Three years library experience preferred
- One-year supervisory experience preferred
- Proficiency with library systems and databases
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Multilingual speaking is a plus
- A high degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is desired
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.
- Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
