Code Compliance Officer-Neighborhood Code7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Full-Time |Be the boots on the ground who protects neighborhoods, solves problems, and helps residents every day.The City of Fort Wayne is hiring a confident, fair, and service-minded professional to inspect properties, enforce housing and safety standards, and work directly with residents to keep our neighborhoods safe, clean, and compliant. This independent, field-based role is perfect for someone observant, detail-oriented, and comfortable having tough conversations with professionalism and respect.What You'll Do Conduct inspections and enforce local housing, safety, and property maintenance codes across the city.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect residential and commercial properties for code complianceInvestigate complaints, issue notices or citations, and follow cases through resolutionMaintain detailed reports, photos, and records using GIS and City systemsEducate residents and property owners on ordinances and corrective actionsTestify at hearings or court and coordinate with Police, Legal, and partner departmentsWhat You Bring – Education & ExperienceAssociate degree in Building Technology, Planning, or related field (or equivalent experience)Experience in construction, inspections, enforcement, or property maintenanceStrong judgment, communication, and conflict resolution skillsAbility to work independently and manage a caseloadPreferred CertificationsIndiana Driver's LicenseSpecial Police Commission (within 60 days)Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification (ICC) within 6 monthsBilingual skills a plusTechnical Skills & KnowledgeGIS, mobile technology, and digital documentation toolsReport writing and legal documentationKnowledge of building systems (structural, electrical, mechanical, HVAC)Why Work for the City of Fort Wayne Make a visible impact every day.
