Summary

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a Restricted Housing Unit (RHU) maximum.

Maintain security of all RHU MAX building and property

Maintain a logbook of all incidents occurring during shift.

Supervise the use, accountability, and control of keys and other related security equipment

Performs security and post checks.

Monitor the operation of the control room.

Direct and supervise an inspection program to detect and correct deficiencies in security, safety, sanitation, and maintenance of RHU MAX.

Instruct, train, assigned, and monitor officers and other security staff under area of responsibility.

Ensure medical referral is provided to all inmates when needed and to correctional employees under emergency conditions.

Personally check all RHU MAX cells on a daily basis where inmates are confined and properly document.

Ensure the RHU MAX maintains a high state of cleanliness and sanitation at all times.

Be familiar with SCDC policy/procedures.

This position is for Substantiated Security Risk Unit (SSR).

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and three (3) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year for associate and above = 1 year.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
