Position Details:
Work Shift: Night Shift - 12 (United States of America)
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24
Department: GCMC Public Safety
Overview of Position: Protects life and property of all person on Genesis HealthCare System property. Must be knowledgeable of Genesis policy/procedures. Works in tandem with other departments/employees to work out problems and find solutions to patient, visitor and staff needs.
Essential Duties:
- Patrols facilities and grounds to help prevent fire, theft and vandalism.
- Makes arrest in collaboration with the agency having jurisdiction where facility is located and the enforcement of the Ohio Revised Code.
- Helps ensure safety of all employees, patients and visitors throughout the Genesis facilities.
- Appears in court when necessary.
- Documents all security incidents and assists with the restraints of combative patients.
- Handles patient valuable storage and return.
- Conducts monthly fire extinguisher checks.
- Conducts quarterly dire drills per schedule.
- Works with inpatient psychiatric unit for safety of patients, visitors and staff while following CMS, OSHA and other regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have a certificate from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) and be eligible for commission in the State of Ohio.
- Current firearms qualification is required.
- Must have a valid Ohio driver's license.
- Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, facilitation, conflict resolution and investigative skills.
- Demonstrated excellence with listening, verbal and written communication skills in order to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and situations.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Must have problem solving skills the ability to work independently or as part of a team and under pressure in complex and changing working environment.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of computer software, including programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
Patient Centered Care & Behavioral Expectations:

- Promotes Patient and Employee Safety
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to stand, walk and run through all types of terrain for long periods of time.
- Must be able to negotiate stairs, ladders and graveled roofs to perform routine patrols.
- Heavy lifting up to 100 pounds is required to manipulate bodies onto carts for transporting to and from morgue.
- Required stooping, kneeling, twisting, bending and reaching overhead while performing area searches.
- Must be able to listen and hear machinery, whistles, screams and alarms while performing daily duties.
- Required to read and write for shift-to-shift communication and legal documentation.
- Occasionally required to physically detain and restrain patients if deemed necessary.
