Public Safety Officer IThe City of Aiken's Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for Public Safety Officer I.Performing general police and fire suppression duties in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.Minimum QualificationsMust have a High School diploma or equivalentMust be at least 21 years of agePossess a valid SC driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle recordMust meet all requirements of South Carolina law for law enforcement officers and firefightersThis position is subject to a criminal background check for any convictions directly related to its duties and responsibilities. Only job-related convictions will be considered and will not automatically disqualify a candidate. Public Safety Officers participate in the SC Police Officer's Retirement System through PEBA. Additional Benefits for Public Safety Personnel Include: SC State Firefighter's Association - Members are eligible to receive discounts for education, housing, merchandise, insurance, legal, and wireless carriers, etc. Membership dues for full-time employees and paid volunteers are paid for by the Department. Visit www.scfirefighters.org for more information. Supplemental Retirement Plan - Full-time employees and paid volunteers are eligible the following July after one (1) full year of employment. Once eligible, $600 per year is put in an account for the employee's benefit using the Fireman's Insurance and Inspection Fund (1%). Critical Care Policy - Full-time employees and paid volunteers that are eligible for the Supplemental Retirement Plan are also eligible for Critical Care Insurance.
