Role SummaryAs a Patrol Officer for the City of Cortez, you help maintain public safety by enforcing laws and local ordinances and responding to community needs. You'll take action professionally, document incidents clearly, and communicate effectively with the public and partner agencies.Key responsibilities include:Patrol assigned areas and respond to calls for serviceEnforce criminal and traffic laws and City ordinancesConduct investigations, prepare accurate reports, and provide court testimony as neededUse approved equipment and tactics safely, including firearms and defensive toolsRequired qualifications/skills:Certified Colorado Police Officer; valid Colorado driver's licenseFirst Aid/CPR certified; proficient with firearmsCertified in Intoxilizer, Radar, Nystagmus, pepper spray, and PPCTStrong oral and written communication; able to work under stress and shift schedulesGood physical condition; no felony convictionsTwo-year degree (criminal justice/related) or HS/equivalent plus training sufficient for certificationTotal RewardsMedical, Dental, and Vision coverage, plus Life Insurance.You'll also receive Retirement benefits, along with Vacation and Sick leave to support time away and long-term planning.Your ShiftYour shift starts with a briefing and equipment check, then you're out in Cortez—sometimes handling back-to-back calls, other times staying alert through quiet patrol time.
