General police functions, include but are not limited to: protecting life and property, general patrol, criminal law and traffic code enforcement, city ordinance enforcement, and maintaining public peace.Our officers work 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend off.We have one vacancy, candidates must apply at the website: applications will not be accepted.Essential Job Functions And ResponsibilitiesArrest persons with and without warrants and assist in prosecutions as requiredInvestigate complaints assigned and take appropriate actions, as well as conducting any follow up investigations necessaryIssue appropriate warnings, citations, and summons to violators as guided by departmental policySubdue resisting/violent personsHandcuff and transport suspect or prisonersMediate civil disputesParticipate in formal training programsPerform other tasks as neededQualificationsCompletion of or current enrollment in a WI LESB approved academy is REQUIRED--(or be eligible for reciprocity through the State of Wisconsin)Be a United States CitizenBe at least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application submissionHave a valid drivers licenseHave no felony or domestic abuse related convictionsHave a high school diploma or GED/HSEDAn Associates Degree, OR a Bachelors Degree in any field, OR at least 60 earned credits from a two or four year college institution is desired5-year education deferment available to approved candidatesSupplementalOral interviewsPsychological profileMedical examinationVision examinationDrug screeningBackground investigationResidency within 35 miles required (within one year)THE CITY OF BARABOO IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER#J-18808-Ljbffr
