Traffic Designer/EIT

As part of HDR's Transportation Business Group, you'll help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
HDR is seeking a Traffic Designer/EIT to support our expanding practice in the Midwest, with a focus on Missouri and Kansas. The individual in this position provides, supports, and documents multimodal transportation analysis for efforts ranging from small municipal projects to large, complex system interchanges. Key roles on large alternative-delivery (design-build) projects are not uncommon. Typical activities include:
- Operational analysis using both microsimulation and deterministic models
- Traffic design such as signals, signing/marking, lighting, and ITS
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) planning and analysis
- Multimodal transportation safety analyses
- Multimodal analysis; bicycle, pedestrian, and transit studies
- Support for transportation planning efforts
- Corridor studies
- Traffic engineering studies such as speed studies, signal warrants, parking studies, access management, travel time, traffic impact studies, etc.
- Use of large datasets (HERE, INRIX, etc.) to support model-building and multi-modal transportation analysis
- Supporting proposal development for traffic-engineering pursuits
Preferred Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of relevant experience with traffic engineering and multi-modal analysis
- EIT registration or working toward EIT registration required
- Experience with traffic operational software such as Synchro and VISSIM, as well as Microsoft Office products
- Experience with traffic design including signal design/timing
- Experience with CAD software, especially Microstation – for roadway and/or traffic design
- Experience with transportation safety analysis
- Preference given to local candidates
- Experience with GIS and travel-demand forecasting a plus
- Programming skills (VBA, Python, JavaScript, R, MatLab) – especially in support of microsimulation – a plus
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Ability to multitask while working on many projects at once
