JOB DESCRIPTION: The Dispatcher will be responsible for the coordination of drivers, trucks, and containers to create capacity, maximize productivity, and ensure prompt, professional, courteous, and efficient service for all lines of business. Additional responsibility includes entering ticket information and tracking activity.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assign loads to drivers based on designated routes and driver locations
- Dispatch drivers to calls as they are received, utilizing information on customer needs, driver locations and loads, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response
- Create and maximize capacity by ensuring productive use of all assets, equipment, and drivers
- Handle incoming calls, e-mails, and customer issues that have been received from the Customer Service and Sales departments
- Manage requests for pick-up or container delivery in a timely manner and initiate outbound calls to customers as needed
- Troubleshoot and resolve potential delivery and/or pick-up problems before they result in a service issue
- Gather and maintain route sheet documentation for pick-ups (scheduled, missed, extra pick-ups), route completions, and driver locations
- Ensure route completion via the driver check-in process
- Report and document driver performance issues, concerns, or disputes to appropriate management for resolution
- Communicate with maintenance shop personnel and serve as an emergency point of contact
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience in a dispatch or similar role
- Microsoft Office experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
- Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity, trust, and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor
- Excellent analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines
- Strong business acumen and ability to work effectively across various teams and levels
- Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, writing, tablets, cell phone, etc.) most of the work day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 as needed, sit for extended periods of time, and move between departments where occasional exposure to dust, odors, and weather conditions can be present
- Fast-Paced and High-Volume
- Requires managing multiple calls, schedules, and route adjustments in real time, especially during peak hours or service disruptions.
- Solid Waste Industry or ancillary experience
- Bilingual: English/Spanish
