Reports to: Building Administrator

Position Objective: Controls traffic at crossing points for school children in pedestrian lanes; assists and protects children while they cross the street.

Essential Functions
- Uses STOP sign, stops traffic and escorts or supervises children crossing streets at intersections
- Maintains surveillance of children walking or playing near street and warns them when necessary
- Reports accidents or unusual traffic incidents to school authorities or police
- Assists children who are lost, injured or in need of assistance
- Is aware of and enforces school safety standards at all times
- Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations

Additional Functions
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age

Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, students, parents, and the general public
- Ability to interact with children in a positive and nurturing manner
- Is self-directed and works without direct supervision
- Knowledge of traffic rules and safety regulations pertaining to school crossing
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Understanding of school, district, and state rules and regulations regarding school operations

Working conditions:
- Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluation, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presenting
- Physical Demands: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity
- Environmental Conditions: The work is performed primarily outdoors
