Position Overview
Role: Air Force JROTC Instructor
Department: AFJROTC Unit
Reports to: High School Principal
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction: Deliver approved Aerospace Science and Leadership Education curricula, as well as military drill, in accordance with U.S. Air Force and school district guidelines.
- Mentorship: Counsel cadets on their performance, academic progress, and personal development.
- Extracurriculars: Supervise, organize, and participate in after-school Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs), including drill teams, honor guards, color guard ceremonies, and field trips.
- Program Administration: Maintain accurate student records, manage government-furnished equipment, and prepare required program reports.
- Community Outreach: Foster relationships with civic organizations, feeder schools, and the local community.
Candidates must meet all mandatory Air Force JROTC Instructor Criteria:
- Military Status: Retired or approved separated/actively serving member of the U.S. Air Force or Space Force.
- Rank: Retired or former officer (grades O-3 to O-6) or Noncommissioned Officer (grades E-6 to E-9).
- Education: Minimum of an Associate Degree (Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, required for officer applicants).
- Certification: Must possess a current, approved AFJROTC Instructor Certification on file with Headquarters AFJROTC prior to hiring.
- Appearance: Ability to maintain traditional military standards of personal appearance and wear the prescribed uniform daily.
- Background Check: Must successfully pass the comprehensive AFJROTC Childcare Background Check and maintain compliance with AFJROTC Application Policy.

- Air Force Certification: You must first obtain a certification letter and a Confirmation of Filed Application Worksheet from Headquarters AFJROTC via the Prospective Instructors Guide.
- District Application: Once certified, submit your school application, resume, and unofficial transcripts through our Online Employment Portal.
- Interview: Qualified candidates will be scheduled for an in-person interview.
