Our goal is to protect the public through helping individuals turn away from crime and become productive, contributing members of our communities, ensuring a safer Ohio for all Ohioans now and in the future.What You'll DoThe Correction Officer responsibilities include:Maintaining control of the institution to provide for safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies and proceduresSupervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facilityAssuring assigned area is clean, safe, and secureMonitoring and operating security controls, equipment, and computersOperating automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transporting inmatesConducting inmate counts, security rounds, and searchesCompleting required reports and serving on committeesPreventing escapes or incidents which threaten securityWhen necessary, using physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmatesNewly hired Correction Officer will be hired at step 1 ($24.16) and will move to step 2 ($24.86) after 6 months of employment.Earn an additional $0.60 per hour working 2nd or 3rd shift.Why Work for the State of OhioWe provide a variety of quality, competitive benefits to eligible full‑time and part‑time employees. Applicants for positions in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction must also successfully pass the correction officer assessment or have completed the assessment within the past 24 months; or be current employees with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction who have previously been certified as a correction officer.
