The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not necessarily limited to:Enforcing the laws of the County and all other pertinent local and State lawsPatrolling an assigned area, checking doors and windows and examining premises of unoccupied buildings or residences in order to detect any suspicious conditions in a motorized police vehicleInvestigating suspicious conditions and complaints and making arrests of persons who violate the lawMaking traffic arrests and giving violation tickets to those who break traffic laws, aiding motorists, and investigating traffic accidentsAssisting in cases of fires, accidents, rescues, hazardous materials, and disorders in assigned areas as directedRestoring order, regulating traffic and preparing necessary reportsConducting investigations of serious crimes and accidental deaths; preserving the scene of the crime, interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects; following up leads and presenting cases to the County Attorney's OfficeServing warrants, subpoenas, and legal papers; handling and supervising evictions, performing repossessions, and placing liens as necessaryPerforming the duties of a jailer, including booking and processing prisoners, fingerprinting and photographing prisoners, and screening visitorsOverseeing the care and custody of prisoners and mental health patients, escorting prisoners from the jail to the courthouse or other institutionsAppearing in court as the arresting officerAssisting on medical calls with CPR and first aidMaintaining records and preparing reportsPerforming all other related duties as assignedMINIMUM STANDARDS FOR IOWA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERSTo qualify for the position of Deputy Sheriff with Linn County you must meet the following requirements:U.S. citizenship and a resident of Iowa upon employmentAge 18 or older and have not reached your 60th birthday at the time of appointmentCurrent Iowa driver's license or the ability to obtain one before the date of hireAbility to read and write the English languageHigh school diploma or GEDGood physical, mental, and emotional condition as determined by a physician; pass drug screening testUncorrected vision of not worse than 20/100 in either eye, correctable to 20/20, and normal color visionNormal hearing in each earNot be addicted to drugs or alcohol, be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation, and have not been convicted of a felonyNot, by reason of conscience or belief, be opposed to the use of force, when appropriate or necessary to fulfill duties#J-18808-Ljbffr
