About Miami Correctional FacilityMiami Correctional Facility is a level‑four high‑medium‑security facility located in Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base property and also includes a level‑one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. It offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners. Incarcerated individuals gain hands‑on skills that build employability for re‑entry and help develop strong work habits and meaningful experience.Employees support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments may include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.Role OverviewAs a Correctional Officer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will work as part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12‑hour shift you will maintain the security of the unit and the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. Per pay period, Correctional Officers work 85.75 hours, including one weekend shift.SalaryThis position starts at $22.00 per hour base pay plus $2.00 per hour differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. Eligible custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties receive a $50 non‑discretionary bonus for each shift where they perform those duties.A Day In The LifeMonitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, counts, and security of buildings and grounds.Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details, including general cleanup of institutional grounds and buildings.Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation.Keep records and make reports on incarcerated individuals' movements, activities, and rule violations.Search housed areas and visitors for possible unauthorized items.The job profile is not a comprehensive listing of all duties. You must maintain constant vigilance for periods up to sixteen (16) hours. The environment can be stressful with a threat of physical harm or injury to yourself, coworkers, incarcerated individuals, and the general public due to errors in judgment.Physical EffortDepending on duties, frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and similar movements may be involved.
