The hiring range for this position is $18.00 hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. This is a part time, FLSA non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.

Job Summary/ Objective:
Performs routine semi-skilled work maintaining active community parks, grounds, and buildings.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
- Control invasive plants using manual control techniques and/or herbicides
- Monitor current and future restoration projects
- Maintain care of restoration plantings, which may include watering
- Perform non-native invasive plant species assessments on parkland
- Identify native and non-native plants
- Assist with revegetation projects, including tree planting, overseeding and installation of native plants
- Participate in volunteer invasive plant removal events
- Organize, deliver, and procure tools and supplies
- Outreach to staff and citizens on invasive species issues
- Other tasks as assigned
Competency: Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:
- Some knowledge of invasive plant management principles and practices.
- Some knowledge of native flora, fauna, geology, and ecology of Albemarle County.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate power equipment, hand tools and chainsaws.
- Knowledge of Field Safety procedures.
Required Education and Experience:
- Some experience in invasive management.
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Frequently walking long distances over difficult terrain in varying weather conditions while lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs.
- Regular operation of power equipment, tools, and field survey equipment.
- Sustained attention and safety awareness required to navigate potentially hazardous conditions.
- Some contact with the public, staff, and external professionals, requiring judgment, tact, and interpretation skills to address issues.
