SECURITY OFFICER (TITLE 32)

Security Officer Duties

As a SECURITY OFFICER (TITLE 32), GS-0080-12, you will be the Wing Commander's principal advisor in all law enforcement and physical security matters; enforce federal and assimilated state criminal and traffic laws, applicable regulations and administrative policies; provide protection at the air base against possible theft, unauthorized entry, espionage, sabotage, and subversion from both internal and external threats; perform analytical and evaluative duties related to the business of security; be responsible for accomplishment of the wing physical security and law enforcement programs; manage a program comprised of a military and/ or federal/ state workforce involved in work which includes Air Force (AF) operations, assigning and directing security forces personnel in normal and emergency operations; support established Department of Defense (DoD), AF, and ANG security programs; perform protective service work in guarding military buildings, personnel, and resources; serve as the Wing AT/FP Officer; direct installation measures needed to protect against internal and external threats of terrorism; exercise delegated authority to implement plans and protective measures to counter the threat, and for law enforcement initiatives and functions; plan and develop selective law enforcement operations to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; analyze weaknesses identified during risk mitigation studies, and higher headquarters inspections of systematic security problems; compile, summarize, and analyze information relating to crime prevention requirements; develop plans for approaches to satisfy the requirements and implement appropriate courses of action; plan, schedule, control, and direct all unit functions; provide leadership and guidance ensuring unit functions meets all wartime readiness requirement; establish unit goals; develop, implement and review policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage or loss; plan and advise on security and law enforcement issues; interpret DoD, AF, ANG and State guidelines, and advise on methods and procedures for application; determine, formulate, and recommend budgetary, training, and organizational requirements; perform a variety of DFC and supervisory functions to include assigning work to subordinates (dual and non-dual status, Active Guard Reserve (AGR), and traditional drill status members); set priorities and deadlines, develop standards and evaluate performance of subordinate employees; periodically review position descriptions to ensure accuracy, and the most effective utilization of personnel resources; explain performance expectations and provide regular feedback; give advice and counsel, hear and resolve complaints, interview, and select candidates to fill vacancies within the unit; initiate action to correct performance or conduct problems and/ or approve serious disciplinary actions; develop methods to improve production and quality of work directed; review developmental needs of employees and make decisions as to training required; maintain liaison with national, state, and local governmental agencies such as law enforcement, disaster relief, and others regarding matters of operational and environmental safety, protection of resources and other issues of possible installation impact; negotiate and review host/tenant agreements, memoranda of understanding, joint use and inter-service agreements, and leases, with military and civil agencies; educate on appropriate command and control issues and ensure that applicable units understand organizational relationships and priorities in regards to security; coordinate physical security and other investigative matters with military, other federal agencies, or civil authorities; provide guidance and assistance during emergencies as well as civil disturbances and disturbances involving use of military resources; perform other duties as assigned.
