San Antonio Water System Water Development Engineering Internship

The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) provides a unique environment where you will experience just that! Our Development Engineering Department is seeking an enthusiastic intern. The SAWS Internship Program offers educational and work experience that will provide a basis to build your career.
The Development Engineering Department is currently accepting applications for an Internship. Interns should be available to work immediately and continue through December 18, 2026. The work week will not exceed 29 hours per week. Interns may work around their class schedules committing at least 29 hours of work time per week. Interns will need to work during core business hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding SAWS holidays. (There is no weekend or night work hours.) Work location will be in office at SAWS headquarters with the possibility of field visits which will start and end at headquarters.
Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about SAWS’ water and wastewater infrastructure requirements and how these apply to new, existing, and future developments. As part of the Utility Service Agreement (USA) team in the Development Engineering Department, the Intern will:
• Learn and operate software such as ArcGIS Pro, MS Excel, and INFOR used for the USA program.
• Prepare meeting minutes, perform engineering calculations, and perform other duties in support of activities associated with new development.
• Prepare exhibits showing water and wastewater infrastructure and other spatial features using ArcGIS Pro.
• Provide support to SAWS engineers and other staff.
• Gain experience in organization and time management by working with multiple projects and tasks in a team environment.
• Gain real-life work experience that complements your education.
Minimum Requirements:
• Must be currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior or post Graduate in an Engineering field preferably in civil, environmental,
mechanical or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
• At minimum, must have two years of Microsoft Office suite required, specifically, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Additional computer skills will be necessary to include the ability to learn new computer programs.
• Must be a self-starter and detail-oriented with organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work designated work schedules.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical requirements include lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally. Requires visual acuity and hand-eye coordination. Working conditions are in an office environment with prolonged sitting; and may be required to perform occasional field visits.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
