Supervisory Museum Specialist

Overview The Supervisory Museum Specialist is responsible for protecting, restoration and preservation of collections, as well as personnel management of the unit's museum. The incumbent will supervise a team of museum technicians/specialists in handling, maintenance, preserving, and restoring artifacts from the National Collections.Responsibilities Be responsible for restoration and preservation planning after seeking advice and working closely with the technical experts of the PRU staff, the curators, and the Conservation Unit.Train subordinates in all areas of preservation and restoration and be expected to accomplish this training and tasking independently.Develop work schedules and assign tasks based on an approved project schedule, taking into account the individual and team skills of the staff.Initiate, review, and approve personnel actions to include: promotions, reassignments, performance plans and appraisals, and disciplinary actions.Perform other duties as assigned, including administrative duties such as creating budgets, resource requirements, project/task schedules, objectives/goals, staff/organizational planning, etc., in support of the unit. Also serves as a Contracting Officer's Technical Representative as needed.Keep the Chief, PRU and/or the Collections Dept. Chair informed of project status, independently resolving problems, and bringing unique issues to their attention.Requirements Pass Pre-employment Background InvestigationMay need to complete a Probationary PeriodMaintain a Bank Account for Direct Deposit/Electronic TransferMales born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective ServiceMust be able to lift 50 poundsMay be required to serve an 18-month probationary period for supervisorsQualifications To qualify for the GS-12 level based on experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes leading maintenance, preservation, and/or restoration projects of large aviation, space, or industrial objects, including:Disassembling, assembling, cradling, or creating mounts for artifacts/aerospace equipmentMoving, conserving, preserving, and restoring industrial objectsUtilizing equipment such as forklifts, gantries, pallet jacks, dollies, and vehiclesExperience may be paid or unpaid, including volunteer work; education is not a substitute for experience for this position.#J-18808-Ljbffr
