The Senior ITS/Traffic Engineer will be responsible for producing and modifying design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for complex transportation projects. In this position, you would collaborate closely with the project manager to conduct research, perform design development, and ensure successful project delivery. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing advanced traffic engineering and ITS projects that improve mobility, safety, and efficiency across transportation networks.Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Lead the planning, design, deploymentand operationsof Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal systems, andconnected autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies.Develop traffic engineering studies, including signal optimization, corridor analysis, and congestion management strategies.Utilize knowledgeof FHWA's System Engineering processUtilize knowledgeof NJDOT and NJTA ITS Design StandardsDesign traffic signals, roadway signage, pavement markings, and intersection improvements following NJTA, NJDOT and MUTCD standards.Oversee integration of ITS hardware/software, traffic management centers, and emerging technologies.Prepare technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates.Collaborate with agencies such as NJDOT, NJTA, MPOs and local municipalities on statewide and regional projects.Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.Ensure compliance with industry standards (MUTCD, NTCIP, AASHTO) and applicable regulations.Participate in professional organizations/associations and attend events.Occasional travel to the NYC Office.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 6 years of traffic signal design, ITS design and traffic engineering or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationValid US Driver's LicensePreferred Qualifications10 + years of experience in traffic engineering and ITS projectsNJ PE license required and PTOE is plusProficiency inMicroStation highly preferredExperience designing traffic signals, roadway signage, pavement markings, and intersection improvements following NJTA, NJDOT and MUTCD standardsDemonstrated proficiency in traffic analysis software such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, and CAD software and/or MicroStationFamiliarity with NJTA, NJDOT, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local traffic engineering standards and guidelinesExperience developing traffic control plans, detour plans, and transportation management strategies for public and private sector projectsExperience with testing and acceptance specifications for a completely verified ITS implementationsExcellent communication and leadership skillsParticipate in professional organizations/associations and attend events.Must be willing to travel occasionally to the NYC office.Additional InformationThis position does not offer relocation assistance.Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we believe in your potential and are here to help you achieve it.
