Correctional Officer Oklahoma Department of Corrections is recruiting for Correctional Security Officers for multiple positions located across the State of Oklahoma.Applicants must be willing to attend an 8‑week live‑in academy in Oklahoma City from Sunday 6:00PM through Thursday 6:00PM and return home on the weekends. Academy starts October 12, 2026. Lodging and meals are provided.Basic Purpose Maintain the security, control, and custody of inmates in a state adult correctional facility.Typical Functions Provide security and supervision to inmates in a variety of situations and activities; maintain security of an assigned area or post.Provide security and supervision over inmate work crews; escort inmates to work sites; inventory and control all equipment, weapons, tools and keys.Patrol yards, grounds, cell houses, corridors, dormitories and work areas on an assigned shift; observe activities and movements of inmates; manage inmate conduct, work and discipline.Maintain order and discipline in programs and during meals and recreation periods; inspect living areas, facilities and work locations for unauthorized objects or materials; make reports on incidents.Operate manually or electronically controlled security equipment to maintain controlled movement of inmates, staff and the public.Conduct inmate counts; perform searches of inmates and living quarters for contraband; enforce institutional rules and regulations.Prepare written documentation and reports concerning inmate behavior, status and movement.Participate on escape and apprehension teams; respond to riots and fires.Level Descriptors Correctional Officer : Basic level with formal and on‑the‑job training in security and custody duties. Responsibilities include supervision of inmates in various settings and performing first‑level trained security tasks.Corporal : Career level providing full performance security and control of inmates. Responsibilities include maintaining discipline and security both inside and outside the facility, interpreting post orders.Education and Experience Minimum age 20 years.Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma/GED plus completion of an approved training course.For Corporal: Additional 12 months of correctional or security work experience for a governmental or private corrections agency.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Fundamentals of English usage, basic math, reporting writing.Use and care of firearms, proper restraint methods, self‑defense methods.Discipline objectives, psychology of inmate behavior.Evaluating situations and adopting appropriate actions, alertness, quick response in emergencies.Ability to follow oral and written instructions, gather and organize facts, prepare clear concise reports, communicate effectively, establish and maintain working relationships, maintain firearms proficiency, and manage conflicts.Special Requirements Completion of minimum testing or professional evaluation through Human Capital Management.Pre‑employment and annual physical examination meeting Department guidelines.Valid driver's license at time of appointment.Drug testing.Availability to work any assigned shift or day of the week, including additional shifts.Physical conditioning, self‑defense tactics, receipt of oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray training.Compensation and Benefits Correctional Officer: $44,680.90 per year.Corporal: $46,924.80 per year.Lodging and meals provided during the 8‑week academy.Equal Opportunity Employment The State of Oklahoma is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of genetic information, race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability.#J-18808-Ljbffr
