Code Enforcement Officer Part-Time

The Code Enforcement Officer Part-Time performs journey-level code enforcement duties involving the investigation, documentation, monitoring, and enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances. Assignments may include proactive patrols, response to citizen complaints, and enforcement activities occurring during evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Incumbents have frequent contact with the public and may encounter irate or hostile individuals. This classification differs from the full-time Code Enforcement Officer in that incumbents work a reduced schedule and are assigned based on operational needs.
Typical Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful performance in this classification. A typical qualifying background includes:
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of experience involving public contact, inspections, investigations, regulatory enforcement, code compliance, law enforcement support, or closely related work.
- College coursework in public administration, criminal justice, planning, or a related field is desirable.
- Prior experience in law enforcement, code enforcement, parking enforcement, animal control, or another public safety or regulatory enforcement environment is highly desirable.
License/Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class "C" California driver's license.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, certification in PC-832 level III within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
