Overview
Creates public information including timely, accurate information to the public and media. Includes news releases, newsletters, public events, news conferences, talking points, social media and other communication tactics as needed. Works cooperatively with media, departments and public in routine and emergency situations. Works closely with all communication divisions including multimedia, public information and customer call center. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
• Creates content for communication initiatives for the City including high profile issues, communication/marketing plans, advertising placement, emergency management and employee communications
• Include highly visible public campaigns and education initiatives
• Includes daily submission of content for editorial calendar
• Work with media in a positive, cooperative environment with various organizations
• Answers call and questions, schedule interviews and coaches City representatives.
• Participates in media interviews by assisting and providing positive feedback
• Provides media analysis of reporting and story tone
• Develop, plan and implement public meetings for departments for a variety of reasons to promote citizen engagement
• Participates and provides content for content editorial calendar across communication channels - including web, social media, print and video
• Proactively prepares content for newsletters, brochures, communication plans, etc
• Cooperatively works across all levels of organization in helping departments prepare and release information for residents, businesses and visitors
• Provides excellent customer service to departments, media and vendors while representing the department/City
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) - preferably in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, English or a related field
• Two (2) years of experience
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
