SummaryThis position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising, and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores, and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.QualificationsTo qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement — 07/24/2026. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑5. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you possess one‑year time‑in‑grade, as required by the announcement. In that instance you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade. Note: Time‑In‑Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑5 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitoring expiration dates; ensuring supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work. A full year of work is considered 35‑40 hours per week. Part‑time experience will be credited based on time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent.Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management, processing orders, distributing supplies, and conducting physical inventories in the warehouse and various supply points. Responsibilities include storing and distributing supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points and within the bulk supply areas. Physical exertion includes standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling supply carts, and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds. Work is primarily in a supply office and distribution points. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to hazardous materials; hair covers, shoe covers, and gloves are worn as required in clean/sterile areas and for inventory verification. Delivery may be required over uneven terrain and/ or in adverse weather conditions.
